A deal to acquire a German maker of plastic processing machinery will be the first European-based investment from the firms’ $4.7bn third fund.

As banks take a step back from providing debt in the market, opportunities are rife for private equity firms to set up special credit funds.

The Zug-headquartered firm has collected €375m to take advantage of the dearth of credit available in the market as traditional providers continue to reduce their activity.

Actis is the second private equity firm to invest in AGS Transact Technologies following TPG Growth’s $43m investment last year.
